SOSLIP Announces
WELCOME 2016 Summit

The South Okanagan | Similkameen Local Immigration Partnership (SOS LIP) is excited to announce WELCOME 2016- A Welcoming Communities Summit to be held at Okanagan College this June.

Integration is a two way process.  It involves commitment on the part of the immigrants and refugees to adapt to life in Canada and a commitment from Canadians as individuals, employers, educators, and community, to welcome and embrace new population and cultures.

“The Welcoming Communities Summit is a step in this process.  Our goal is to build an inclusive environment for learning, discussion and growth,” comments Helen Greaves, SOS LIP Chair.  “The Summit is an opportunity to reach out to the community with information and directives we all can influence.”

WELCOME 2016 will include keynote speakers, breakout sessions and cultural celebration.  Dialogue will range from employment strategies, to regional history, to future directions for immigration.

“This will be a signature event that will contribute to uniting our community in our future” adds Greaves.

The SOS Local Immigration Partnership Council is a collaboration of 50 community leaders from across the region that are working to reduce the time it takes new immigrants to integrate socially and economically into our communities.  The LIP Council is led by South Okanagan Immigrant & Community Services with funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
