Morning Workshop - Understanding Diversity in Today's Workplace
Respect and productivity in the workplace come from a foundational understanding that we are different from everyone else. Sometimes these differences are the big ‘D’ differences such as race, gender or disability. Sometimes the differences that create judgment and conflict arise from small ‘d’ differences – how we see the world, whether we feel our values have been compromised or ignored, how we see the work should be done, even how we think our colleagues and leaders should behave.
If organizations do not understand these differences and how they relate to recruitment, retention and engagement, leaders often experience a revolving door of staff and declining productivity of those who stay.
In this three-part session, learn how we perceive diversity and why it is such a challenge for individuals and leaders, the core diversity areas affecting organizations today, and how Eastern and Western business mindsets create challenges in how we lead, delegate and communicate on the job.

This is the chance to ask questions and learn through dialogue. The first panel will be made up of employers representing various sectors in our region. The second panel will feature immigrants representing a variety of skill sets.
